Michael D. Smith, M.D.
Dr. Michael Smith is a Board Certified Radiation Oncologist with more than 20 years of Radiology experience. Dr. Smith graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1987 and completed his residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch and Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr.Smith began his practice in radiation oncology at Vanderbilt University as an Assistant Professor treating pediatric oncology patients in central Tennessee, southern Kentucky, and northern Georgia who developed cancer requiring radiation. His extensive experience included oversight of all cancer related investigational protocols, a regular presenter at local tumor boards, speaker at lay person cancer meetings and support groups. He served as a Radiation Safety Officer, developed an interstitial prostate seed program, re-estabshed a HDR brachytherapy program, and implemented IMRT in treating cancer using a multi disciplinary approach. Additionally, Dr. Smith served as Medical Director for Radiation Oncology, and Chair of Physicians Regional Hospital General Tumor Board in Naples, Florida.
